Et tu, Heilemann?

Now Donald Trump is taking is action. Somebody said the other day on another network when trump gave his speech to the joint session, this is the moment when he becomes president. I think that the moment when someone becomes President of the United States is the moment when they first use American military might. Whether they like him or don’t like him, that’s the moment where you stand back and say, okay, he’s the president of the United States.

Bloomberg Politics Editor, writer, and pundit, John Heilemann, April 7, 2017, on Morning Joe

I think that it’s been an important reminder to all Americans that we have a judiciary that has taken far too much power and become in many cases a supreme branch of government. The end result of this, though, is that our opponents, the media, and the whole world will soon see, as we begin to take further actions, that the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.

Gone Fishin’

People are asking me to use the power of Congress to do a full-on fishing expedition to investigate him personally on things that are not required by law. I think my doing that would be an abuse of power.

– Utah Senator and Chair of the House Oversight Committee Jason Chaffetz, February 10, 2017, after nine separate fishing expeditions into Hllary Clinton over two years, and vowing in 2016 to continue the fishing expeditions if she won

Bigger than 1776

Trump is so fire-breathing, so energetic, so cunning, so real, and he’s having results so amazing that it just makes me endeared to Trump – I’m ready to die for Trump, at this point. And I’m already ready to die for America, it’s the same feeling I have for America, because he is America, you’re America.

And I know that Trump and [Stephen] Bannon really know what are happening – what’s happening, they’re really trying to cut taxes, they’re really trying to get loans to small businesses, they’re really trying to get us out of carbon taxes and Obamacare, and they’re doing it, they’re delivering. And it’s so well thought out; it’s so good. I’ve studied history, I’ve covered politics for 25 years, 21 on air. And I’ve never seen anything like this. This is bigger than 1776 if Trump can deliver.

And then I see all the news — I’ve got articles today, “Ha ha, there’s tens of thousands of bureaucrats that are going to leak everything you’re doing militarily and sabotage you.” That’s called treason. That’s executionable.

Laws Don’t Apply to the Wealthy

We’ve never seen this kind of wealth in the White House, and so traditional rules don’t work. We’re going to have to think up a whole new approach.

In the case of the president, he has a broad ability to organize the White House the way he wants to. He also has, frankly, the power of the pardon. It’s a totally open power. He could simply say, ‘Look, I want them to be my advisers. I pardon them if anyone finds them to have behaved against the rules. Period. Technically, under the Constitution, he has that level of authority.
